Return to the quote we examined at the beginning of the semester: “Knowledge without reflection is a waste of time; reflection without knowledge is dangerous.” What does that quote mean to you now? Think of a scenario that demonstrates that quote and describe it.

"Knowledge
without reflection is a waste of time, reflection without knowledge is
dangerous" was the first quote I read this term. I thought it meant
"think before you speak" or "don't judge without the
facts." I understand it better now that I've taken this course. It means
that having knowledge, skills, or information isn't enough by itself, you need
to think about them, ask questions, and make connections to things that happen
in real life. Without that step of thinking about what you know, it just sits
there doing nothing, and it may even fade away over time. But it can be risky
to think or act without having real information because you might be acting on
guesses, assumptions, or false information.
I can think of an example from my own life that shows this. One of my coworkers
was having a hard time completing an assignment at my old job. I thought I knew
what was going on because I saw them talking to other people a lot during the
day. I thought they weren't really interested in their work. But I didn't know
everything at the time. Later, I found out that they were doing extra work
because a team member quit without warning. Because I didn't have all the facts
when I first thought about things, I might have made judgments or comments that
weren't fair.
On the other hand, I can remember times when I knew something but didn't think
about it enough. I learned how to use a budgeting worksheet to keep track of my
own money in math class. I knew how to use the methods and enter the numbers,
but I didn't think about how I spent my money or what was most important to me.
That's why my budget didn't really help me with my money it was just a tool I
didn't use.
Now that I look back, I see how important it is to keep the two in balance.
When we know something, we have the knowledge, the tools, and the resources we
need to make smart decisions. We can slow down, see things from different
points of view, and figure out "why" we do what we do when we
reflect. If we don't work together, we either waste talent or make mistakes
that hurt others. It becomes more important to me to make sure I have both
sides of an issue before I act because of this class.
